Patio Season Is Here!!!

Spring Time is here and with it comes our new patio seating!  We have finally finished the renovations to our now stellar patio and can’t wait for you to come sit and enjoy our exquisite Thai cuisine from the comfort of our new edition.  We will be opening the patio this Friday and invite all of our patrons to come enjoy the beautiful weather that has been bestowed upon us.

Should it rain we are still able to accommodate those that wish to sit somewhat outdoors.  One of the greatest features of our new patio is the rolling doors and bay windows that encircle the outside space.  We worked with plano-windows.com to ensue we had top of the line windows installed that can open up to allow fresh air into the restaurant.  We have also installed rolling doors so that we can either close the patio to bad weather and still offer seating on it, or roll the doors up to extend the space we have.

Thai Massage… What is it?

 .

What exactly is a Thai Massage?  Is it similar to that of a regular full body massage?  I figured while we were at it talking about the Thai culture (See my last post) I might as well clear up another question that is asked by many.  Also we have a Thai massage parlor right next to Siam-cabin Cuisine so a lot of people that dine in are curious and ask me questions daily.

A Thai massage is somewhat similar to that of a regular massage in the aspect that there is constant contact between the massage specialist and the customer.  However it does differ in the sense that the person remains fully clothed and there are no oils or lotions used.  Also with Thai massage instead of rubbing the muscle the specialist instead compresses the body, rocks, pulls and stretches it as well. In place of the common massage table you also lay on a mat on the floor or a firm mattress.  While you are usually in a darkened room by yourself with only your therapist, in Thai massage multiple people can be in one room receiving massages. The receiver of the massage is also placed in different yoga type positions that help create deep static and rhythm like pressures.

Thai massage is thought to allow the body to open up and release toxins and other impurities trapped in the muscles.  If you are stretched and pulled it is thought that your body is put back into it’s natural state.  Daily chores, stress and exercise can lead to alignment issues and create blockages which cause pain and tension.  The massage specialist may use their feet and body to help move and manipulate your body into correcting any issues.

While most people may be hesitant to try this type of massage we definitely recommend it.It may differ from that of a common American massage but in the Thai culture the Thai massage is our norm.  The worst that could happen is the experience is not for you.  However we suggest getting a nice Thai massage next door and then coming in to see us at Siam-Cabin Cuisine and having a delicious Thai meal.  We think you’ll be satisfied!!

Cultural Facts Of Thailand…

Thai culture can be a little different when viewed from an outsider.  With different customs, food types, and beliefs the Thai culture is often viewed as interesting and a bit odd to some.  However in any culture customs vary and are instilled upon one at birth.  In the Thai culture it is said that customs vary depending on the region you are from.  I thought it might be interesting as well as spread a little knowledge to those that love Thai food and would like to gain a little more insight on the culture it comes from.  I have compiled a list of interesting facts for my fellow readers. I hope you enjoy!

  • Yelling- Raising your voice or yelling of any kind is not permitted in Thailand.  It is believed that one should be soft spoken and humble.  When you yell you show signs of losing control and anger.  That is frowned upon and believed to be disrespectful.

  • Unopened Gifts- If you have ever given a Thai person a gift ,you may have noticed that they set it aside unopened.  This is because in our culture is is thought of as rude to tear open the present in front of the giver.  Instead we wait until we are by yourself to open the gift and fully focus on what has been given to us.  We are very grateful and try to treat the situation as such.
  • Ghosts Permission- It is believed that when you are to stay at another person’s house or in a hotel room that you seek permission from the Phra Phum( or ghost of the land).  Upon leaving the house/hotel you thank the ghost as well.  In some sense I believe it is a type of blessing over you and others.
  • Pregnancy- When you become pregnant in Thai Culture you are not to visit the sick, eat chillies or go fishing.  Chilies are said to be harmful to the baby, and visiting the sick may make you or the baby sick.  As far as fishing goes I’m not exactly sure what is wrong with that but I just know it is part of pregnancy.
  • Removing Shoes- You ,must always remove your shoes before walking into your home or that of others.  It is thought to be gross and dirty and a sign of disrespect to keep them on.  Shoes walk outside and pick up germs, bacteria, and dirt.  Knowingly walking into someone’s home with them on shoes that you don’t care.

There are many more interesting facts and beliefs about the Thai Culture.  So many it may take awhile to cover them all.  At least you may have a little more insight into our culture and perhaps have picked up on the fact that we believe in respect and peace.  Although you may not be part of the same culture as someone else it is always good to know basic guidelines. This world is full of diversity and with that we must appreciate and accept others even if they differ from ourselves.

Boating Extravaganza!!!!

Siam Cabin Cuisine is now catering parties, small to medium scale events, as well as speciality events!  Thai food is so delicious and can be shared by many so we thought why not jump into the catering boat.  Speaking of boats we have a fun catering event we did involving boats that we thought we would share.

This past weekend we catered a boating extravaganza!  It was one of our first events as newly introduced caterers and we are sure it was a success.  It begins with a colleague of ours here at Siam Cabin Cuisine named Ben.   Ben frequently visited our restaurant to sustain his love for Thai Food. He however recently moved across the continent to Florida to open a lucrative vinyl boat wrapping business, boatwraps-florida.com.  He designs wraps of any color, texture, design etc and basically wraps your boat to your fancy making it appear new and as if it had a newly done awesome paint job.  With all of his success in the boat wrapping business he decided to host a party for a yacht owner who’s yacht he just wrapped.  On a pristine sea beauty such as this yacht he needed to make sure the food was up to par.  He wanted light and fresh fare, with a twist of ethnicity.  Who better then to reach out to then us!  We have been in the business for many years and he knew that our food was quality, fresh and delicious! (His words).  The only dilemma was how to bring this food to him when we were across the nation it seemed.
